Professional Bio:

Dawn Nelson, LCSW-S, ACSW, SAP, CART is an experienced clinician who provides therapy services to adults, children, and families regarding child-parent relationships, divorce and co-parenting struggles, and family conflict. Ms. Nelson works extensively with issues such as anxiety, anger, depression, grief, child abuse, sexual trauma, crisis management, and life transitions.  Ms. Nelson understands that family transitions and court involvement create additional stress on clients, so she uses age-appropriate methods, such as playing games with children, to create a safe and caring environment.  She is respectful and non-judgmental; her belief is that clients are doing the best that they can and come to her when their efforts were not successful.

Ms. Nelson is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker-Supervisor, a U.S. Department of Transportation Substance Abuse Professional, a Certified Anger Resolution Therapist, a Parenting Facilitator, and a Professional Mediator.  She earned her Master of Science in Social Work and Bachelor of Art in Psychology and English degrees from the University of Texas at Austin. Ms. Nelson is a State of Texas Board Approved Social Work Supervisor and a Clinical Instructor at Texas A&M University-Commerce. She has served on the State Board of Education Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills Health Review Group, and as Chair of the North Central Texas-Dallas Branch of the National Association of Social Workers.  Ms. Nelson is a member of the Academy of Certified Social Workers, the Clinical Social Work Association, the Council on Social Work Education, and several charitable organizations.
